    This thought occured to me this morning and wanted to bounce off. Feel free to trash it if it is not practical.

    I have seen somewhat lukewarm response to Fund raising and I feel there is potential to multiply the effect.

    If there is a way for IV to match up clients and IV members for part time efforts and the revenue going to IV, I think it will have bigger impact in terms of fund generation.

    How it can work?

    Assuming core team and extended leadership team at IV has networked into the Industry, it can get pieces of work carved out. These deliverables are those that can be collaborated on, worked on remotely.

    These need not be necassarily in IT. It could be in advertising, acocuonting, graphic designing etc.

    IV will seek volunteers interested in participating in this initiative and build skills database and try matching up with the services required.

    All the revenue from such services will go to IV.

    For IVians who volunteer, besides satisfaction of contributing to the cause, industry networking is a nice offshoot.

    This may be my opinion, but volunteering is easy if it is something you do as your second nature.

    I have seen few non-profit organizations provide services for a fee. I am not sure what restrictions are placed on IV from a taxation point of view. But over time, the fund raising wing of IV could be delivering on some niche solutions. I am sure some sympathetic corporations would be supporting by providing work.

    The H-2B non-agricultural temporary worker program allows U.S. employers to bring foreign nationals to the United States to fill temporary non-agricultural jobs. As of 07/16/10, USCIS receipted 30,154 petitions, toward the 47,000 beneficiaries target for the second half of the fiscal year. This count includes 28,539 approved and 1,615 pending petitions.

    There is a statutory numerical limit, or �cap,� on the total number aliens who may be issued a visa or otherwise provided H-2B status (including through a change of status) during a fiscal year. Currently, the H-2B cap set by Congress is 66,000 per fiscal year, with 33,000 to be allocated for employment beginning in the 1st half of the fiscal year (October 1 - March 31) and 33,000 to be allocated for employment beginning in the 2nd half of the fiscal year (April 1 - September 30). Any unused numbers from the first half of the fiscal year will be made available for use by employers seeking to hire H-2B workers during the second half of the fiscal year. There is no �carry over� of unused H-2B numbers from one fiscal year to the next.

    The H2B visa is available to employers of foreign workers not working in the agricultural field. This visa is only available for work that is temporary in nature. For H2B purposes, that means:
    * Recurring seasonal need;
    * Intermittent need;
    * Peak-load need; and
    * One time occurrence.

    The employer must also prove that there are no unemployed US workers willing or able to do the work. This is established through the state's employment agency using a labor certification process. This process requires a recruitment campaign, including advertising in a local newspaper for available temporary workers. The duration of the visa is limited to the employer's need for the temporary workers. The maximum authorized period is one year. However, the employer may extend the duration of the visa up to three years -- but with a very close watch from the immigration authorities.

    My wife had the same situation - was going to be out of town on the scheduled day. She went to the Dallas office on a Wednesday or Thursday and explained the situation to them. They said they were busy that day and said she had upto 89 (?) days to do it. They said she could walk in on any Saturday within that time frame. They also said that there was no need to reschedule. Sure enough, she went in on a Saturday 2 or 3 weeks after the scheduled date and they took her fingerprints.

    Any attorneys opinion? or people who were in similar situation?

    remember, it's not my entire company being sold to another company. Only a fraction of company( a division) is being sold along with the assets( people,stuff etc).

    Your existing PERM is ok as long the acquiring company (successor in interest) keeps you in the same job (almost same job) with similar duties in the same location ( I am not sure exactly on location though it would make sense)

    Even though I didnt have a PERM case go through this scenario. I had an old style case through BEC that went through company acquisitions.

    Your attorney will have to file amendments and other supporting documents (like ability of new company to pay etc etc)

    Is there any problem if your passport is expired while on H1 visa?

    Do we need to get the passport renewed before it is expiring?

    Just get it renewed while you are in US.
    Its a one day affair to get your passport renewed(in person). You submit all your docs in the morning and pick it up in the evening.

    Hello All,

    I e-filed my first EAD renewal yesterday(07.12.2008). Mine is the classical case where i submitted in the window of August 2007 window and the AP and EAD was approved in October 2007.

    My wife is an F-1 student and I concurrently filed on her behalf in Aug 2007.

    Now while renewing my wife's EAD in the efile process, I did the following steps

    1. Started a new I-765 for wife
    2. Filled all the details.
    3. Added I-131 also

    i went ahead and efiled her application (both EAD and AP). Mine is the emplyment based I-485. Assuming that since she is dependent on me, I marked her application as family based I-485.

    Reviewing the pdf, I saw that her documents need to go to the National Benefits Center, while mine is the Texas Service Center.

    Did I commit a mistake? If so, how can I correct it.

    Thanks for all your input on this one, and also the countless other experiences in the past when i have consulted this wonderful forum......

    Just spoke to IO at NSC. Asked about my case. NC is clear and right now processing 09/06 cases so no movement on my case.

    Asked if it has chance getting approved by the end of this year. She said, depending on how many visa no. they get from DOS, there are fair chances that it may get approved by the end of this year.

    I still do not trust them, but her kind words gave me little hope.

    Hello,

    The dept. of labor uses two types of codes, one of which is the SOC code. Yours may be a SOC code (Standard Occupational Classification) or the other one (name I can't remember). If you look at Murthy.com and search for articles on AC21, you'll find information on the two types of codes the DOL uses. The go to the DOL website and do a search for the two types of occupational codes and see which classification system your code matches. Once you access the classification, just look for your number and it should give you a brief description. I did this for my code.

    My birth certificate does not have my name on it. (in india it is OK to name the new born a few weeks after birth.) so it just says "baby boy" on it:)

    Do i need an affidavit from my parents mentioning my name?
